Yep, devastating news for 16-year old me. I were pretty much thinking OMG my life is over... Ridicolous, right? Well, if you haven't been there, you don't get it.
When I met a friend the day after this, the first I said to her was like Please don't say anything and she was like, What? ;-) She wasn't a fan but she had to learn to like them since I were the way I were :P
But honestly, hearing/seeing Kian read that speech still to this day is like a punch in my heart. Uff.
Now, at the press conference Mr McFadden (or McFlurry as we call him nowadays, hihi) said that he was leaving because he wanted to spend time with his family. That might've been true at the time but... We know that was an act more or less now because we all know that 6 months after this he was embarging a solo carriere and he & Kerry had split...
Ooh and do you remember the Irish ESC entry that year, that Brian wrote? At the time I loved it but nowadays it's more Meeh it's okay. I also did get to see Brian live the same year as he left WL. I forced the whole family to go to Helsinki to the Unicef gala for one song with the man, haha. It was also during this event that he got the nickname McFlurry ;-)
And nowadays I don't honestly care about McFlurry, it's like Brian who? ;-)
And as for the rest of the WL lads... They might have said they would split as a band if anyone of the members left but they didn't *luckily* Like Louis Walsh said, There were only four in The Beatles [Good one Louis!] and... The rest is history. They were so much better without Brian anyways! =)
